Imdex Unveils Advanced Technology at PDAC
Leading global mining-tech company IMDEX revealed the latest advances in its market-leading survey and measuring tools and its aiSIRIS interpretive mineralogy software at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada conference in March. IMDEX has the most accurate north-seeking gyro on the market – REFLEX SPRINT-
IQ – but Chief of Product Management and Marketing Michelle Carey says the new OMNIx gyros revealed at PDAC offer another level of accuracy, reliability, and speed. Advancements and development of aiSIRIS have facilitated the release of a new product in the aiSIRIS suite, aiSwyft, offering results in minutes, and at a reduced cost to the consumer.
“The continued improvement of these tools, as with all IMDEX technology, further strengthens our ability to assist the mining industry improve its resource stewardship,” Dr Carey said. “Resource stewardship starts with reliable, accurate orebody knowledge, and that is what these IMDEX products deliver – quality data around the location, structure and mineralogy of rocks contributing to orebody knowledge.”

Michelin Launches Michelin® Mems Lite
Michelin has launched Michelin® MEMS Lite, its newest offer in connected tires for surface mining and quarry vehicles. MICHELIN MEMS Lite is an entry-level tire MEMS solution that combines Michelin’s proven liquid-proof sensors to deliver periodic tire pressure and temperature readings. Tire sensors are mounted inside the tires, where data is captured periodically as vehicles drive by fixed reading stations strategically located at the mine site. The data is then sent remotely to connected devices through a local server or secure cloud server.
“As part of Michelin Better Mining, we strive to provide the mining industry with innovative services and solutions, beyond the tire, that add value for users,” said Hugo Morales, Mining MEMS business development manager. “We designed this new entry-
level MEMS offer to meet the needs of customers who want to start using a TPMS with basic features to improve their operations. We found that miner’s running 100 – 150-ton trucks were looking for a simple, robust plug-and- play solution with alerts sent to their mobile devices should an issue arise, which will be supported by a trusted technical network.”

Komatsu and Cummins Partner to Create an Integrated Approach to Equipment and Engine Monitoring
Unplanned downtime from equipment and engine maintenance at mines can be very costly. To create more value for customers, Komatsu and Cummins have partnered to deliver a new, integrated remote equipment monitoring solution designed to reduce unplanned stoppages, accelerate maintenance execution, and extend component life and maintenance intervals. By sharing equipment health and performance data over common infrastructure, and collaborating on health analytics, both companies can access
the same secure data and develop joint analytics and insights. Data is collected on a single device and all actions are managed in a shared case management system, allowing experts from both teams to work remotely with a customer’s maintenance staff. Integrating machine OEM support from Komatsu with expert OEM engine insight from Cummins allows both to proactively monitor asset health and optimize maintenance management, designed to help mining customers.

Connected Gas Detector With New Catex Sensor
Reliable warnings against gas-related hazards play an essential role in keeping people safe in the workplace. The X-am 2800 multi-gas detector from Dräger simultaneously measures up to four gases. Users can choose sensors for flammable gases and vapors, as well as oxygen, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. The X-am 2800 is optimized for use with the cloud-based software solution, Dräger Gas Detection Connect. The data recorded by the device can be transferred directly via Bluetooth to a smartphone, and then to the Dräger Gas Detection Connect Cloud. Because gas detectors are worn on the body, carrying comfort and robustness are just as important as reliability. Thanks to its small size and low weight, the X-am 2800 can be worn conveniently on a clip. Its large buttons make it easy to use while wearing gloves and the prominent display of the X-am 2800 features a language-free user interface and clearly shows important information such as gas readings, alarms, and the time.
