This issue of Canadian Mining Magazine took a look at nickel-copper mining, and future expectations for the Ring of Fire, in Ontario. Our lead story, Optimism for Ontario’s Mining Future, explored the mining sector and its importance to the province’s economy. It also focused on the expanding relationship between the mining industry and First Nations communities and how the Regional Framework agreement will ensure First Nation communities benefit from proposed Ring of Fire development. The Ontario coverage also reviewed occupational health and safety issues, the challenges and optimism surrounding Ontario’s Ring of Fire, and the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada’s International Convention.
Features in the magazine highlighted changes proposed by the Canadian Securities Administrators to the regime governing takeover bids in Canada; and how the mining industry came together to raise awareness, passion and funds during Movember’s Great Canadian Mining Challenge.
The magazine’s regular departments included a Transaction Report on how mining companies are facing debt obligations now that commodity prices have dropped and sources of refinancing have dried up; an International Update that explained how to better position your company and prepare for consolidation; Junior Mining News that explored how renewable electricity can energize junior miners, how to mitigate the associated challenges, and the cost and time savings that can be achieved; and a Tax Time report on how to structure foreign projects so that you can determine the best debt/equity mix and financing structure for your project. Tools of the Trade, News Watch and Upcoming Events round out this edition’s line-up.
