Extreme Low Temperature Braking Systems
Force Control Industries, Inc. can supply clutches and brakes designed for low temperature applications—as low as -40 degrees. A common use is motor brakes for winches on barges, dredges, ships and port side docks.
Extremely low temperatures can create numerous issues that need to be considered. Standard castings and certain commonly used steels are subject to fracture even under minimal shock loads. In addition, the internal fluid can become so viscus that operation is affected.
Therefore, Force Control Industries designs brakes and clutches specifically for extremely low temperatures. Special ductile housings are used and low temperature steels solve this problem. The brakes and clutches are designed with Oil Shear Technology, which means they are filled with transmission fluid. Special low temperature synthetic fluid is used in conjunction with a heater to maintain the proper temperature for consistent safe operation.
If located around fresh or salt water, or outdoors, marine duty units are available to control corrosion, and maintain a tightly sealed unit.
Oil Shear Technology provides extremely long, nearly no maintenance service, lasting five to 10 times that of dry friction systems, and no adjustments are needed—ever!

Make Every Drill Hole Count
In March 2018, Acoustic Zoom was crowned the winner of #DisruptMining 2018, the innovation accelerator designed to encourage new technologies and ideas to solve some of the biggest challenges in mining. Acoustic Zoom impressed the judges with their ultra high-frequency 3D drill hole seismic imaging and earned the opportunity to negotiate a contract or investment of up to $1 million with Goldcorp. Using Acoustic Zoom, you get more value from a single drill hole by applying the technology to get rich data in a radius around the drill hole, not just the drill hole core itself. This allows for better targeting of drill holes in the future to maximize the impact on exploration geology. Acoustic Zoom uses sound waves received down the drill hole to better detect patterns, map structures, rock types, and fault zones. The impact is that mining companies can drill fewer holes, spend less money and be more efficient and effective.
