Canada’s mineral exploration and development sector is at a turning point. With new federal investment through the $2-billion Critical Minerals Fund, tax credit extensions, and infrastructure funding, the stage is set to accelerate mineral exploration and project development across the country.
“The federal government has recognized that you can’t build new mines without first supporting mineral exploration,” says Todd Stone, President and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration – British Columbia (AME). “These policy and funding changes will help junior companies grow into producers and strengthen Canada’s position as a global leader in critical minerals.”
Seizing the moment
Permitting reform remains a central focus for AME and its members. AME is working directly with governments to streamline approvals, address regulatory bottlenecks, and ensure that exploration projects can advance efficiently and responsibly.
Stone adds, “We’re seeing real progress on the permitting side as senior officials sit down with our members to identify and fix the pain points. We expect and hope this will lead to real, tangible progress.”
Across British Columbia and beyond, success stories are emerging from strong partnerships with Indigenous communities. From early engagement during mineral exploration to shared ownership and training opportunities, these collaborations are demonstrating practical pathways for responsible and inclusive resource development.
