Winter 2017

of Canadian Mining magazine

The Winter 2017 issue of Canadian Mining Magazine focused on mining activity in Ontario. We were excited to feature Compass Minerals’ Goderich salt mine on the cover (image courtesy of Joy equipment). Inside the magazine, our Ontario coverage started with an overview article that spoke of mining’s contribution to the province’s economy and outlined a number of must-watch mines in the region. A second article showcased Laurentian University, located in Sudbury. Laurentian is the only university in Canada with geology and mineral exploration as integral components of its strategic plan. The Ontario coverage wrapped up with an article on Cobalt Power Group, which recently purchased nine cobalt mines in the province. This article explores the potential.

Three feature articles covered a wide array of topics. The first showcased how one mining giant attempted to use financing as part of a plan to obtain control of a junior. The second outlined five ways damage is likely to occur on mining equipment and what can be done to prevent the breakdown. And the third covered a popular topic in the industry—crowdfunding. Is this source of revenue beneficial or bad news for Canada’s juniors?

The magazine’s reports covered numerous topics, including confidentiality agreements; a proposed rule on the disclosure of mineral properties and what it could mean for Canadian companies; if Canada is ready for an upswing in the mineral industry; speculative vs. business-orientated juniors; and how flow-through share financing is critical to mining in Canada. We wrapped up the issue with a look at some new tools available to market, a round-up of news across the country, and a calendar of upcoming industry events.
