Ammonia removal from impacted mine water has typically been accomplished through chemical oxidation or mineral adsorption. The generation of harmful byproducts, the laborious replacement of media and non-compliance with effluent limits are known to plague conventional systems.
BluMetric Environmental has developed MARS to solve the mine water ammonia challenge. MARS begins with enhanced pre-treatment and optional, scenario-specific membrane filtration to sequester ammonia from a variety of other constituents in the water. The system then employs an application-specific ion-selective media for the efficient removal of ammonia to very low levels previously unattainable. The final stage of the MARS system is the CR3 process, which regenerates the media and recycles the regenerant for reuse.
