Exciting Speakers, Workshops and Training Opportunities Coming to Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference 2018
Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference is a forerunner in gathering the industry together, and 2018 is sure to be the most exciting show yet! With significant changes to the oil and gas industry in recent years, companies have been forced to reimagine how they do business – and the Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference is no exception.
Wes Scott of EventWorx Corporation, the planning and organizing body of Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference, says, “We simply could not continue to run the event in the same format, much like energy companies have to reinvent how they operate.” Delivering what service companies want (the right people attending), and what attendees want (education, training, live demonstrations) is about striking the balance to ensuring the trade show genre survives.
“We have spent a lot of time talking to exhibitors and attendees, to help us shape a new focus, to a more grass-roots approach,” says Scott. The event, which is the ultimate showcase of oil sands innovations and technologies, will run September 11-12 at the Suncor Community Leisure Centre in Fort McMurray.
A New Focus, a New Experience
This year, the team is shifting their focus to the expectations that attendees have, which have changed over the years. Simply walking the aisles at a trade show is a thing of the past, and visitor expectations have evolved. The focus is shifting to include more solutions to their business challenges; and with that they want many more educational choices. Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference is excited to cater to these evolving guest needs.
Through research and feedback the theme for the 2018 event is “Planning the Future: The Shift Towards the Next Generation of Oil Sands Production.” The event will attract 300 exhibiting companies, with emphasis on educating attendees in an interactive, dynamic format, featuring workshops, a full 2-day conference and the Meet the Experts series.
So Much to Learn
Attendees will have access to a parade of experts on a variety of different topics across the oil sands supply chain, all located right on the trade show floor! Participating exhibitors will hold sessions in the area of their expertise, and guests are invited to listen and engage in as many sessions as they wish. Informal discussion through interactive displays between the service companies and the attendees will replace the usual doldrums of walking a trade show booth-to-booth. These intimate gatherings provide an opportunity for guests and exhibitors to share knowledge in a relaxed and casual environment, aligning with the show’s goal of providing quality educational experiences.
A number of workshops are also available this year. As part of the commitment to provide educational value to guests, various workshops and training sessions will be held over the course of the trade show and conference. Including topics like Empowered Innovation, Changes at WCB: What Employers Need to Know about Bill 30, Dramatic Revision of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Collaborative Contracting and Introduction to Transport Logistics Simulator, these valuable education options offer value for all visitors of the show.
A series of technical presentations on topics including Environmental Solutions; Digital Oil Sands; Instrumentation, Systems, Automation, Maintenance and Operations, Shutdown and Turnaround, WorkSafe Strategies, as well as advancement technologies in in-situ drilling, and minding round out the educational component. Technical Conference presenters include: Joshua Pinter (CNTRAL Inc.); Lindsay Nagle (L&A Energy Consulting Ltd.); Glenn Ormsby (GPT Industries); Gord Susinsky (Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc.); Dave Willis (PeroxyChem); Juan Arraez (Lloyd’s Register); Jared Lazerson (MGX Minerals); and Fred Haney and Cathy Farina (Dynamic Catalyst Solutions Inc.), with more speakers being announced this summer!
Keynote Speakers at Your Fingertips
New to the Show is the Oil Sands Conference Main Stage, hosted on the exhibition floor and free to all registered guests of the show. Keynote Speakers with interactive panel discussions will replace the usual ‘talking heads’ format, and include speakers like Shelley Powell of Suncor Energy, Kevin Birn of HIS Markit, Dr. Trent Keough of Keyano College, Jean Paul (JP) Gladu of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and Markham Hislop of Energi News, with more speakers and panel members being added regularly.
The Oil Sands Trade Show and Conference is also very pleased to welcome Rex Murphy, an iconic and distinct Canadian voice, who will share his view on the State of the Canadian Oil Sands and our Abilities to Compete Internationally. Mr. Murphy is presenting at the keynote luncheon on day two, which is sure to be an entertaining and thought-provoking session.
Networking Is Key
EventWorx has also evolved the networking opportunities. The event will provide hosting opportunities for companies to invite their customers for their own sessions such breakfast briefings, lunch-and-learns and private receptions, in a cost-effective way.
“Business still needs to be done face-face – we can’t always hide behind email or the internet. We look forward to generating a refreshed platform for both companies and individuals to get together to find innovative supply chain solutions to the challenges they are facing.”
Don’t forget about the other networking events: the Sand Trapped Charity Golf Classic taking place on Monday, September 10th and The Big Party Industry Reception and Fun Casino on September 11th. These two events offer such a great opportunity to connect with your clients and hardworking staff in a casual and fun environment.
